NCAA College Football Isn't Fair: Mid-Majors Have No Chance!

Custom Search

There are 120 division 1-A college football teams. Why?

Only teams that are in the Bowl Championship Series have a legitimate chance to win a National Championship. Does the NBA have certain teams that no matter how the season unfolds they are not allowed to participate in the playoffs? How about we have the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees not allowed to be in the World Series? Does this sound ridiculous? Well it is, and something should be done.

2"Mid-Major" schools are considered the lesser of the teams in division 1-A football and are not in Bowl Championship Series (BCS) Conferences. These teams are in the same division but are not equals. If a Mid-American Conference (MAC) team wins all twelve regular season games and the conference championship game the best outcome they can hope for is a berth in a non-championship BCS but even that is a long shot. A non BCS school will never have a chance to win the National Championship. Let's look at the 2006 Boise State Broncos. In 2006 Boise State, a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) had a perfect 12-0 regular season. They were ranked only 9th due to their status as a non BCS school. They were placed in the Fiesta Bowl against the heavily favored Oklahoma Sooners. Even after the upset and completing a flawless season, Boise State was not given even a glimmer of hope at a National Championship.

There is nothing in sports like the playoffs. Imagine the NCAA basketball season without the 65-team tournament. Imagine a Major League Baseball season that just ends at the end of the 162 game season and the team with the best record from the best division wins the championship. Playoffs were made for sports and need to be included in all sports. One of the criticisms of having a playoff system is that there is not enough time in the year to hold playoffs over several weeks. In 2007 the Ohio State Buckeyes waited 51 days between their last regular season game and the January 8, 2008 National Championship game. And there isn't enough time in the year to have playoffs?

Wrigley Field Hockey?- Chicago Cubs Stadium to Host Outdoor NHL Game
Wrigley field is the home of the MLB Chicago Cubs. Soon it will be home to a sporting event not associated with baseball; hockey. January 1, 2009 the Chicago Blackhawks will face off against Stanley Cup Champions the Detroit Red Wings. The game is still waiting for league approval. The game is expected to get the approval and to be a success of epic porportions. The Blackhawks Red Wings rivalry is one of the stronger rivalries in the game. The outside environment on New Years day will be electric and could be record breaking.

On January 1, 2008 the Buffalo Sabres faced the Pittsburgh Penguins at Ralph Wilson stadium in front of over 71,000 fans in Buffalo, New York. The Penguins won the exciting contest 2-1 in a shootout and was an instant classic. Due to Wrigley Fields location and history this will be a monumental event in Chicago sports history. The game is expected to bring in 42,000 fans. The odd layout for a hockey game will not detract from the matchup.

January 1st is going to be one of the best days for sports in recent memory. There will be five NCAA Bowl games including the Rose Bowl and Orange Bowl played on the same day. Chicago is not known for being a big college football town due to no conteders in NCAA football being located nearby. Chicago is primarily a baseball town and secondly a Chicago Bears town. There should be a very large, loud, and lively crowd for the New Years day spectacular in Wrigley Field.

Detroit Lions Season Ticket Holders Cry

Article by Michael Luchies

Detroit Lions hear my cry, Will you win a Super Bowl before I die?

Sundays I weep, yell, and sigh, And still for some reason season tickets I buy

You raise your prices but not your wins, Fans fear the worse before the season begins

Millen receives a raise for all of his sins, We still lose to giants, cowboys, and even Redskins

Our greatest player is a kicker, Hanson gives us hope although only a flicker

What we would give for a quaterback or interception picker, Instead lets draft a flop and make fans sicker

In my third year I sit in the 7th row, Enjoy a good game before we then blow

when we should pass we run and when we should run we throw, Sometimes the team I wish would not show

All the bad times and nine dollar beers, instead of cheering the fans only jeer

Why do I buy these is all that I hear, While I stash all my cash when August comes near

We'll show 'em next year is what I say, And continue to pay to watch my team play

They turn my hair grey and tempt me to pray, for a 9 win season and a playoff display

Detroit Lions hear my cry, Will you win a Super Bowl before I die?

Sundays I weep, yell, and sigh, And still for some reason season tickets I buy
